The voting membership of the Americal Division veterans Association
Subject; LZ Buf

  Greetings and salutations
I ask each office holder of the ADVA to read this web site so you can see for yourself what I am talking about. LZ Buf belongs to the Buf grunts from the fourth Battalion of the third infantry. It does not belong to an officer named (stenson). Those of us in Charlie company 4/3, built that LZ with our entrenching tools. We filled the first sand bags and with the help of the other companies of the 4/3 we built LZ Buf by may 1968. The Battalion suffered over 500 casualties in 1968 while spending 10 months securing, developing and defending LZ Buf.  Consistently you issue maps relegating Buf  to a footnote. LINK TO SAMPLE. I request that you correct this unfortunate lapse of judgment. If those of us in the fourth Battalion who built the fire base  wanted to rename Buf we could have named it," LTC Barker", who died in June. If we wanted to rename Buf we could have called it,"Major Walter Tully", who was killed in a mortar attack on LZ Buf the day before "you say" (stenson) flew over LZ Buf. I repeat the words, you say, because both copies of the March 1969 staff journals I have are missing March 3 and 4. If (stenson) died in our AO that day I wonder why that information is being withheld?  As you read the evidence in this web site you will notice that Buf is mentioned hundreds of  times. (stenson's) name is never mentioned once. I believe you have chosen a personal agenda over historical fact in your representation of LZ Buf. This is not true to the 500 people from 4/3 who were casualties or to the rest of the fourth Battalion. At the very least, the name Buf deserves equal billing with (stenson) on reference material.

I would like the voting membership of the Americal Division Veterans Association to issue a policy that
mandates historical integrity in the gathering, preserving and distribution of historical information.
I ask that you stop issuing maps with (stenson) as the predominate name. This is just not right.
I ask you to provide proof that (stenson) even died in our AO. I would like to see a journal with coordinates.
I ask you to provide proof that the name LZ buf was ever changed. A staff  journal would do.

I will post any evidence/response you submit on the buffgrunt site. Gentlemen. I plan to retake the LZ and Buffgrunt.com  is the weapon of choice. I speak for no one but myself.. If others are of a similar reasoning I trust they will let you know.  I, or we, will retake the hill for the Buf strap citizen solders who gave there blood, sweat and tears. They never heard of (stenson) either. Your position is indefensible. I await your reply.

Respectfully; Tommy J. Skiens
